Famke Janssen Responds to Jean Grey Speculation Amid ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Hype

Fans of the original ‘X-Men’ films have been watching every casting ripple around ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. The movie is bringing legacy heroes and fresh faces into one giant showdown, and that has naturally put a spotlight on Jean Grey. The speculation has followed Famke Janssen into every press stop as excitement builds toward the next Avengers chapter.

Janssen’s run as Jean remains a touchstone for a lot of moviegoers. She first appeared in ‘X-Men’ at the turn of the century and returned for ‘X2’ and ‘X-Men The Last Stand’, with later appearances including ‘The Wolverine’ and a cameo in ‘X-Men Days of Future Past’. The role stuck with audiences, and the questions about a comeback have kept coming her way.

Asked directly if Marvel had reached out about returning, Janssen was clear. “Never. Never ever.” The line landed like a gavel and seemed to quiet the latest round of rumors about a secret cameo or third act surprise.

She also talked about how often the topic follows her around. “Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned,” she said, adding that the attention is something she has learned to take in stride. “I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”

The bigger picture helps explain why the curiosity is so intense. Several veterans from the Fox era are set to suit up again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. So far that list includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer. Bringing that many icons together has fueled hopes that Jean might materialize as well, yet Janssen’s comments suggest the door has not opened.

The new Avengers film is stacking other headline makers too. Robert Downey Jr is returning to the Marvel universe in a very different role as Doctor Victor Von Doom, which has only raised the stakes around every casting whisper. The Russo brothers are back in the director’s chairs, and the film now targets a winter launch after a round of schedule shifts across the studio slate.

For anyone eyeing calendars, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to arrive on December 18, 2026. That gives the studio a long runway for marketing while leaving fans ample time to debate which multiversal doors might still swing open. As of now, though, Janssen has kept her stance simple and unvarnished.

Even with the constant questions, she remains gracious about the character’s hold on people. “I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people. It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her,” Janssen said. Then she smiled toward the future, acknowledging that curiosity will never quite fade. “I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like [is it] Doomsday? … it’ll come up again.”
