After his journey from a stormtrooper to a would-be Jedi left many fans and Boyega himself somewhat let down by the character’s development in the ‘Star Wars’ saga, he’s now hitting the gym hard, showcasing a physique that might just be perfect for a superhero—or villain.
Despite this physical transformation leading to wild speculation about joining either Marvel or DC, Boyega has previously expressed a desire to explore different, more original projects outside the superhero realm. In 2022, he made it clear that Marvel ‘is not in the vision for me now.’ His interest leaned towards contributing to independent films that bring fresh ideas, stating the challenge in trying to match the impact of characters like ‘Iron Man’ within that established universe.
Yet, things could change if the right opportunity comes his way. The fitness posts may just be for getting in shape or another unrelated role, but they have definitely reignited discussions about what kind of hero or villain he could portray. As for a return to the ‘Star Wars’ universe, that seems unlikely. Boyega has openly criticized the way his character and others like Kelly Marie Tran’s were handled compared to their co-stars, such as Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver.
He pointedly commented, ‘You guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f*ck all.’
Boyega’s frankness about his ‘Star Wars’ experience reflects a broader sentiment about how his character’s arc was managed, emphasizing that it was a far cry from the ‘great experience’ others received. This stance likely closes the chapter on his involvement with the franchise, focusing instead on what’s next.
