Batman Fans Split on Who Should Play Robin in Upcoming DCU Films

The DC Universe (DCU), under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, is set to launch with an exciting lineup of new projects. Their approach differs from Marvel’s, as they’ve titled their initial chapter ‘Gods and Monsters’.

The first release from this chapter will be the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’, premiering on the Max streaming service from 5 December this year until 16 January 2025. This series picks up after ‘Peacemaker’, with Amanda Waller assembling a monster team due to the risks posed by human teams like the Suicide Squad.

The anticipation is also building for the DCU’s first live-action venture, a Superman film starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, set for release on 11 July 2025. While the full release slate remains under wraps, we know that one of the films in the works is ‘The Brave and the Bold’, directed by Andy Muschietti. This film will delve into less explored members of the Bat-Family, primarily focusing on Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, who is also known as Robin.

Speculation is rife among the Batman community about who will play Robin. A few years ago, Ryan Potter seemed a strong contender. He even campaigned for the role during Ben Affleck’s tenure as Batman, but having since aged and taken a role in the ‘Titans’ series, he’s no longer in the running.

Current fan favorites include Finn Wolfhard from ‘Stranger Things’ and Jacob Tremblay, who previously voiced Robin in the ‘Harley Quinn’ TV series. Some suggest that a fresh, young, and relatively unknown actor might be the best fit for the role.

There’s also discussion about whether Robert Pattinson’s Batman is mature enough to have a sidekick like Robin. The world crafted in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’, which is part of the DCU’s Elseworlds timeline, seems a challenging fit for the character of Robin. On the other hand, a project like ‘The Brave and the Bold’ seems perfectly designed to include Batman’s dynamic partner.
