The Untold Fate of the Original Xenomorph Unveiled in ‘Alien: Romulus’ Prequel
‘Alien: Romulus’ has captivated audiences as the latest thrilling chapter in the Alien saga, and its prequel comic has now answered a burning question about the xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s original film.
In the iconic ‘Alien’, the crew of the Nostromo encountered a lethal alien after investigating a distress signal on LV-426. Sigourney Weaver’s character, Ellen Ripley, was the sole survivor after ejecting the creature into space. However, the xenomorph’s story didn’t end there.
In ‘Alien: Romulus’, directed by Fede Álvarez, the Weyland-Yutani corporation discovers the Nostromo’s remains decades later. Among the wreckage, they find a rock-like cocoon confirmed to be the xenomorph’s remains, now labeled “XX121”. The specimen is transported to the Remus/Romulus space station for examination by Rook, the science officer.

Marvel Comics’ ‘Alien: Romulus #1’ unveils the chaos that ensues on Remus. Despite precautions, security guards Adrian and Hyla, unaware of the cryogenic measures in place, inadvertently revive XX121. The creature resumes its deadly rampage, alongside newly unleashed facehugger specimens, wreaking havoc on the station’s crew.
In the comic’s climax, Hyla attempts to rid the station of the xenomorph by opening the airlocks, while Rook races to use a compound derived from the creature. Hyla manages to kill XX121, but tragically, both she and the xenomorph are expelled into space. Rook, left in awe, observes the compound’s effects on a revived test mouse.
This gripping tale not only gives closure to the fate of the original Alien’s xenomorph but also sets the stage for the events in ‘Alien: Romulus’, weaving a tale of intrigue and survival in the cold vastness of space.
