Is Nick Fury a Friend or Foe in the Ultimate Universe’s Latest Twist?

Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is wrapping up its inaugural year with a special issue that promises to shake things up.

‘Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1’ is not just a conclusion to the year but a doorway to new beginnings with the introduction of characters like Ultimate Wolverine and Nick Fury.

Writers Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio, alongside Deniz Camp and artist Jonas Scharf, have teamed up to offer us a peek at what’s coming next.

The issue brings Nick Fury into the fold, but it’s hard to tell whose side he’s really on. Instead of leading S.H.I.E.L.D., he commands a helicarrier marked by an open palm logo.

Could this signify he’s part of H.A.N.D., or is it something more sinister? As a master spy, he could very well be playing a double agent, especially since he’s involved with the Maker’s Council as they face the resurgence of heroes in their corrupted universe.

The plot thickens with the introduction of the Maker’s ultimate weapon, the Winter Soldier, who is also known as Ultimate Wolverine.

This character is set to star in his own series come January, under the creative guidance of Condon and Cappuccio.

This prelude in the Ultimate Universe hints at darker times ahead, with Camp and Scharf revealing a story that’s as beautiful as it is grim.

In terms of visuals, the comic doesn’t hold back. The artwork includes a chilling portrayal of the Maker by none other than Frank Miller and a special cover featuring Ultimate Wolverine’s debut by Cappuccio.

Other Ultimate series artists like Marcho Checchetto, Stefano Caselli, Peach Momoko, and Dike Ruan have swapped roles to create a collection of variant covers that bring a fresh take on familiar faces.

Deniz Camp shared that this issue is designed to be an entry point for new readers and a treat for long-time fans, setting the stage for a thrilling next chapter. It’s clear that the Ultimate Universe has big plans, and we’re just getting started.
