Takashi Yamazaki, ‘Godzilla Minus One’ Director, Meets Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige
In a recent interview that was translated from Japanese, Takashi Yamazaki, celebrated for his direction of the hit movie ‘Godzilla Minus One’, revealed that he has met with Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios.
Despite the excitement surrounding his potential involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Yamazaki is not moving forward with any projects within the franchise.
Yamazaki shared a surprising bit of information during the interview, where he humorously noted that Feige complimented the ‘Operation Kaishin’ style, saying, ‘Wadatsumi, good!’ despite it seemingly being just small talk.
He further mentioned that he has been receiving great offers from abroad, yet chose to turn them down to focus on continuing his work in the Godzilla series.
‘Godzilla Minus One’ not only became a financial success, grossing $116 million worldwide on a budget under $10 million, but it also set records as the highest-grossing Japanese movie in North American box office history and clinched an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
With a recent re-release, it added another $510,000 to its earnings just this past weekend.
The movie is set in a post-war Japan where the nation, already devastated by war, faces a new threat from Godzilla, pushing the country further into despair—a concept that underscores the film’s title.
As the 37th installment in the long-running Godzilla franchise and the fifth in its ‘Reiwa’ era, expectations are high for Yamazaki’s next project, whether it’s a direct sequel to Minus One or an entirely new story.
