‘Agatha All Along’ Debuts on Rotten Tomatoes as One of the MCU’s Lowest-Ranked Shows
Marvel’s new series on Disney+, ‘Agatha All Along’, has received a mix of reactions. While fans on social media were buzzing with excitement, the critics have given it a moderate reception, resulting in a Tomatometer score of 68% after the aggregation of over 53 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (in the time of writing).
Compared to other Marvel Television shows on Disney+, ‘Agatha All Along’ ranks above ‘Secret Invasion’, which has a 52% score, but below ‘Echo‘ at 70%. This places the series in an interesting spot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially when contrasted with high scorers like ‘WandaVision‘ at 92%, and the top-rated ‘Ms. Marvel‘ and ‘X-Men ’97‘ at 98% and 99%, respectively.
The series features Kathryn Hahn returning as the charming yet cunning witch Agatha Harkness. Alongside Hahn, the series introduces us to a cast that includes Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and special appearances by Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza.
‘Agatha All Along’ starts with Agatha Harkness rendered powerless and freed from a distorted spell by a mysterious goth teenager. Intrigued by his request, Agatha and her new companion set off on the Witches’ Road—a challenging trail that promises to restore what a witch has lost if they can survive its trials. Together, they rally a coven and venture into the unknown.
The series is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos, and head writer Jac Schaeffer, who also directed three episodes. Directors Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Monteiro each took on three episodes of this enchanting series.
Critics have described the show as a ‘spooky, scintillating, supernatural delight’. Our take? Agatha All Along does justice to its predecessor ‘WandaVision’ by continuing to explore complex themes with a blend of charm and intrigue, courtesy of a spellbinding performance by Kathryn Hahn.
Despite the mixed critical reception, the future of Agatha Harkness in the MCU seems promising. The narrative seeds planted in ‘WandaVision’ are set to sprout, with Vision and potentially Agatha playing roles in upcoming projects like ‘Midnight Suns’ and the anticipated Scarlet Witch movie.
The first two episodes are currently available for streaming on Disney+, and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more updates on this series. So, grab your popcorn and let the magic of ‘Agatha All Along’ bewitch you this season!
