Star Wars Actors Rally Against Racism: Amandla Stenberg Supported by John Boyega

John Boyega, famous for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has recently supported Amandla Stenberg amidst the backlash following the cancellation of ‘The Acolyte’. The show won’t be returning for a second season, and Stenberg, in particular, has faced a lot of negative attention online. This isn’t a new scenario in the Star Wars universe, as previous actors have also experienced harsh criticism from the audience.

Stenberg shared her feelings on Instagram about her experience with ‘The Acolyte’. Sadly, her post quickly filled up with negative comments. In a show of solidarity, Boyega posted a meme of Harrison Ford as Han Solo saluting, a nod to his support. Interestingly, other actors from the show like Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Rebecca Henderson haven’t received the same level of negative feedback.

The pattern of backlash isn’t new to the Star Wars series. Starting with the prequel trilogy, both Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks, and Jake Lloyd, the young Anakin Skywalker, were bullied. The sequels continued the trend with actors like Daisy Ridley facing similar issues. Recently, Moses Ingram, who starred in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, also became a target. Ewan McGregor publicly denounced the racist comments directed at Ingram.

It’s clear this behavior harms not just the individuals involved but the entire franchise. Tearing down new content and the creators behind it doesn’t help Star Wars thrive. As a fan, you’d think we’d want to see more from this universe, not less.

The continued backlash often targets specific actors, and it’s no coincidence that Stenberg, Best, and Boyega have shared such experiences. It’s a troubling trend that we need to address if we want to keep enjoying new Star Wars stories. Changes are necessary to protect the actors who bring these stories to life.

It’s heartening to see actors like Boyega stepping up to defend their colleagues, showing that there is still hope for a more supportive and understanding Star Wars community.
