Amber Heard took to Instagram to express her thanks for the support she received for her role as Mera in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’. She shared photos from the set and spoke about her appreciation for the love shown by us during her return as Mera.

The movie, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, marks the end of the DCEU as we know it. It wasn’t originally intended to be the last film in this franchise, but it now serves as the conclusion to a decade-long saga. While this film concludes Jason Momoa’s chapter as Aquaman, he might still appear in the new DC Universe that James Gunn is crafting.

For many actors from ‘Aquaman’, this film represents a potential farewell to their characters, unless they are cast in new roles in Gunn’s upcoming projects. Mera, played by Heard, had a smaller part in this movie but still managed to have plenty of screen time. This was her last appearance as Mera in the DCEU.

During the production of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, Heard was often in the news due to her legal issues with Johnny Depp. There were calls for her removal from the film. Despite this, Warner Bros. and the team at DC Films chose not to dismiss her.

Mera’s reduced presence in the movie was reportedly due to less chemistry on screen with Momoa, as noted by the former president of DC Films, Walter Hamada. The story shifted focus more towards Arthur Curry and his half-brother Orm. Mera spends a significant part of the movie away from the main action, following a severe injury.

As of now, there’s no confirmed plan for Aquaman’s role in the new DC Universe under Gunn’s direction. It’s unclear who will play Arthur, Mera, and other key characters if they are brought back in the revamped franchise. It might take some time before we revisit the Atlantis storyline in the DC Studios projects.
