Before Henry Cavill, Hugh Jackman Had Another British Actor in Mind for Wolverine’s Role

Hugh Jackman has made a significant impact as Wolverine, playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for 24 years. After his portrayal in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ it’s hard to picture anyone else filling those shoes. Yet, Jackman wasn’t the only one to bring Wolverine to life; Troye Sivan and Henry Cavill have also stepped into the role. Cavill recently appeared as a new version of Wolverine, sparking conversations about who could officially take over from Jackman.

During a 2015 interview with MTV UK, while promoting the movie ‘Pan,’ Jackman mentioned that if 20th Century Fox decided to recast Wolverine following his departure, he would want Tom Hardy to continue the legacy. He admired Hardy’s potential for the role, suggesting that Hardy would do a great job without making the transition too easy.

Tom Hardy is known for his roles in films like ‘Inception,’ ‘The Revenant,’ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ and for playing the villain Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ His performances show he has the grit needed for Wolverine. Although Hardy is currently known as Eddie Brock in the ‘Venom’ series, his tenure might be wrapping up with the upcoming ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ slated for release in 2024.

This opens a possibility for Hardy to step into the Wolverine role, as the MCU has yet to reveal its official Wolverine. Jackman’s suggestion of Hardy might still come to fruition, despite Hardy’s recent portrayal of Eddie Brock in the MCU, which was briefly tied to the main storyline through the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ post-credits scene.

The idea of Hardy joining the MCU as Wolverine is intriguing, especially since Jackman himself has expressed his approval. We could see a new actor taking on a younger Eddie Brock, allowing Hardy to transition into Wolverine seamlessly, thanks to the MCU’s use of multiverse storytelling.

Both Hardy and Cavill are excellent choices for Wolverine. It remains to be seen who will finally don the claws after Jackman, but the future seems promising for Wolverine fans with these talented actors in the running.
