Black Noir Actor Nathan Mitchell Is Actually Narcoleptic In Real Life
Nathan Mitchell, known for his role as Black Noir in ‘The Boys’, has a unique trait thatโs not just for the screen; heโs narcoleptic in real life. In a revealing chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, co-stars Antony Starr (Homelander) and Chace Crawford (The Deep) shared that Mitchell genuinely experiences episodes of falling asleep, even during filming.
In the latest ‘The Boys’ Season 4 episode titled ‘The Insider’, the character Black Noir falls asleep amid a battle, which mirrors Mitchellโs real-life experiences. Mitchell himself shared with TV Insider how true to life this trait is, recounting how his friends recall his tendency to nap at parties back in high school.
Mitchell feels the show’s writers excel at weaving personal traits of the actors into their characters. He appreciates how these personal touches add depth and relatability to their roles. Mitchell also opened up about the challenge of speaking while wearing Black Noirโs mask, a new development for his character. Initially, he was unsure about voicing the character but gradually embraced the opportunity to express more of Black Noirโs personality through dialogue.
He credited the showrunner, Eric Kripke, for capturing the essence of his personality so well in the script. Mitchell felt that the dialogue was something heโd naturally say, making his performance feel more authentic and grounded.
This blending of actor and character adds a layer of authenticity to ‘The Boys’, making it a unique viewing experience. We get to see actors bring parts of their real lives to their characters, enriching the storytelling with genuine, personal elements. Nathan Mitchellโs narcolepsy being incorporated into Black Noirโs character is just one example of how personal experiences can creatively influence a show.
