‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Is Unfortunatelly Undoing ‘Civil War’
In the latest movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ Sam Wilson steps up as the new Captain America, following in the footsteps of Steve Rogers. Directed by Julius Onah and written by a team including Matthew Orton, Malcolm Spellman, and Dalan Musson, the film is set to carve out a fresh path for Sam, marking his transition to the big screen two years after his last appearance in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’
The movie, expected to be a hit in 2025, undoes some of the previous narratives from ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ While Steve Rogers was the face of Captain America before, the dynamics are changing as Sam takes on the mantle. The first trailer, released by Marvel Studios, reveals that Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, now played by Harrison Ford, is pushing for Captain America to become a government-sanctioned role again. This twist comes after the government’s previous attempts to control the Avengers under the Sokovia Accords caused a major split.
Unlike his predecessors who either died or retired, like Iron Man and Black Widow in ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Sam’s rise as Captain America sees him possibly working closer with the U.S. government. Ross and Sam’s first interaction in the trailer hints at upcoming challenges as they navigate what it means for Captain America to work alongside the government once more. The movie promises to be more grounded, echoing the style and tone of the well-loved ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’
The backstory of Captain America’s complex relationship with the U.S. government stretches back to his creation during World War II and continues to evolve. Steve Rogers’ disillusionment began after discovering Hydra’s infiltration of SHIELD, and his resistance to government oversight peaked during the Civil War.
The trailer teases that the relationship between Sam and Ross might be shifting, especially after an assassination attempt on Ross by Isaiah Bradley. Sam may still provide security for the President, but the film hints that he will maintain his independence, proving why he’s the right person to wield the iconic shield.
As we await the movie’s release, it’s clear that ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will redefine what it means to hold the title in modern times, ensuring Sam Wilson’s legacy is both respected and distinct from Steve Rogers’ storied past.
