Chris Hemsworth Misses Out on Epic Viking-Themed Suit in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
Fans of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ had mixed feelings about the movie, especially regarding the hero’s costume. After the rugged look in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, where Thor gets into shape dramatically, the latest installment took a lighter approach with a more colorful and less serious costume. Many felt this didn’t sit right, given the previous film’s tone.
In the 2022 film directed by Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth’s character sports a suit that many found too casual for the King of Asgard. However, concept art by Aleksi Briclot, shared on his Instagram, showed a much more intense, Viking-themed outfit. This suit, which wasn’t used, carried vibes from his ‘Endgame’ appearance and even incorporated elements reminiscent of Captain America’s attire.
Briclot’s concept would have seen Thor in a transition from a black to a white suit, aligning with his character’s evolution. This change was meant to reflect his journey, but the final movie opted for a shinier and brighter costume that felt more like a party outfit. The concept suit also hinted at additional powers, taking some inspiration from Captain America, which could have added more depth to Thor’s abilities in the film.
Fans expressed their disappointment on social media, wishing for the more serious and powerful suit that matched the gravity of Thor’s character arc. Comments ranged from frustration over missing out on what could have been a perfect suit, to comparisons with the less favored costume seen in the movie, which some likened to a ‘Fortnite skin.’
It’s clear that if Waititi had chosen the concept art route, it would have likely been a hit with the audience, matching the darker and more mature themes that some expected from Thor’s latest chapter. Instead, the choice to go with a lighter tone and aesthetic has left some fans longing for what might have been a more fitting portrayal of their favorite Asgardian.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is currently available for streaming on Disney+. Fans continue to debate the costume choices and thematic directions of the movie, showing just how passionate they are about the representation of their beloved hero.
