Could ‘Spider-Man 4’ Have More Than One Peter Parker?

Marvel Studios and Sony are pushing ahead with ‘Spider-Man 4’, with Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on ‘Shang-Chi’, taking the director’s seat. With Tom Holland returning as Spider-Man and filming expected to start early next year, fans are buzzing with anticipation. Each Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured a significant Marvel character, and it looks like ‘Shang-Chi’ could be a likely crossover, given the charactersโ€™ history in the comics.

But whatโ€™s really stirring excitement is the potential for ‘Spider-Man 4’ to dive into the multiverse. The upcoming movie could coincide with the new two-part Avengers saga directed by the Russo Brothers, with the second part titled ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. This timeline sets the perfect stage for different versions of Peter Parker to meet. We might see characters like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man making an appearance.

Garfield’s portrayal, which many feel was cut short without a third solo film, still has much to explore. He could join forces with Holland’s Spider-Man to work through his unresolved issues. At the Toronto Film Festival, just before Cretton’s appointment was announced, Garfield mentioned, ‘I think itโ€™s kind of endless, what can be done with that character. Not that we should; not that we will, but I think you can always find another story to tell.’

Though many of us would love another big event movie, it seems ‘Spider-Man 4’ is aimed to be more of a local hero story, focusing on Peter Parker’s neighborhood responsibilities. However, with multiverse possibilities, the chance of encountering multiple Peters is a tantalizing prospect.

So, while ‘Spider-Man 4’ promises a return to the basics, it might just surprise us by weaving in more of the Spider-Verse.
