Could ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2 Bring Back Darth Plagueis from the Shadows?

Disney’s Star Wars series, ‘The Acolyte’, has sparked a lot of chatter online. Even though its first season has ended, it continues to be a hot topic among fans. Discussions and theories about the show’s characters show its lasting appeal. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan or not; it’s hard to deny that the series had its brilliant moments.

‘The Acolyte’ has certainly played its part in expanding the Star Wars universe. A key highlight was introducing Darth Plagueis in live-action, previously mentioned in Episode III by Palpatine. This move could pave the way for exploring his story further, especially if there is a Season 2.

Our friends at ScreenRant have put together an insightful piece on how Plagueis could be featured in future series. If ‘The Acolyte’ gets another season, it would be a perfect opportunity to weave Darth Plagueis’ rich backstory, which is currently non-canon, back into the official lore.

Palpatine once described Darth Plagueis as so powerful that his only fear was losing his powerโ€”which he eventually did. Plagueis was his master before Palpatine ultimately betrayed him. This backstory sets a complex stage for the character.

Darth Plagueis is a significant figure in the Sith legacy, ranking as one of the most powerful before Palpatine. While only briefly mentioned in the films, the novel ‘Darth Plagueis’ by James Luceno gives us a more detailed account. In the novel, after killing his own master, Plagueis searches for an apprentice. He defeats a secret apprentice of his master and continues searching for a suitable candidate. Eventually, he discovers Palpatine on Naboo, who impresses him with hidden Sith abilities.

Plagueis then guides Palpatine, now Sidious, through his early training on Mygeeto and helps him climb the political ladder in Naboo. Meanwhile, Sidious trains his own secret apprentice and starts scheming behind his master’s back.

Disney’s acquisition shifted many stories like these to non-canon status. However, ‘The Acolyte’ could bring these tales back into the light. The show has already acknowledged that Plagueis is a Muun, as was established in the earlier Legends lore. This inclusion shows that the series respects and values our understanding and attachment to these stories.

We really hope the writers will listen to our hopes and reintegrate key elements from Lucenoโ€™s portrayal of Plagueis, like his ‘Grand Design’ and his actions during the early Skywalker saga. Itโ€™s not about a page-for-page adaptation, but keeping the spirit and key events alive.

Everything depends on the future of ‘The Acolyte’. But for now, stay tuned for more updates and discussions.
