Daisy Ridley Gears Up for a New Star Wars Journey Amid Production Delays
Lucasfilm announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration in London that Daisy Ridley would be making a comeback as Rey in a new film set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This upcoming movie, directed by Ms. Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, aims to be a continuation and perhaps a redemption for the sequel trilogy.
In this next chapter, now considered Episode X, Rey has risen to the rank of a Jedi Master. Her mission? To establish a new Jedi Order and tackle the emerging dark forces that threaten peace. The details of these adversaries remain under wraps, leaving fans curious and speculative.
The storyline has contributions from Steven Knight, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Damon Lindelof, indicating a strong narrative waiting to be unveiled. Despite the anticipation, the production isn’t progressing as swiftly as expected.
Ridley remains positive, sharing her enthusiasm for the role and the story’s potential. “They simply asked if I wanted to do it, based on an idea, without the script being written yet,” Ridley explained to Premiere (via SFFGazette.com). After a day of contemplation, her fond memories of filming persuaded her to return. “This new adventure seemed fun to me, so why say no? My thoughts on the subject are quite simple: if I didn’t think the story was worth telling, I wouldn’t have come back.”
Recent reports by Daniel Richtman reveal that the untitled Star Wars project requires additional development and is postponed, with filming now expected to start next year. This delay suggests a potential theater release no sooner than 2027. Additionally, Taika Waititi’s involvement in a separate Star Wars film is reportedly on an indefinite hold following the lukewarm reception of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Ridley recently reflected on her return, emphasizing a more mature approach this time around. “I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it… I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time. There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be a part of,” she shared earlier this year.
With The Mandalorian and Grogu slated for release in May 2026, the Star Wars universe continues to expand, despite the occasional hiccup in production schedules. As always, we’ll keep you updated on the latest developments. Stay tuned, and may the force be with you as we wait for more news on Rey’s next big adventure!
