David Corenswet’s Super-Sized Journey: Too Big for His Britches
2025 promises to be an exciting year for DC Studios, with new projects like “Creature Commandos” set to premiere in December. However, it’s the upcoming “Superman” movie that’s poised to truly launch the DCU, according to James Gunn and Peter Safran. With this new era comes David Corenswet stepping into the iconic role, taking over from Henry Cavill as Superman.
Recently, Corenswet shared his experiences with his transformation into Superman on the “Manly Things (Sort Of)” podcast. He discussed the challenges of adjusting to his new, bulkier physique, revealing that he had reached a weight of 238 pounds at his heaviest during the preparation phase.
“I wasn’t 238 when we started shooting. I was 238 at my max. I didn’t fit into any of my pants,” he explained. This significant weight gain was a new experience for him, marked humorously by a moment during a film table read when he discovered he had sized up to a 2XL in a Champion sweatshirt.

As the shooting date approached, Corenswet began to lose some of the weight, aiming to start filming at around 228 to 230 pounds. He saw this role as an opportunity to push his limits by gaining as much weight as possible. His story reflects a growing trend among male actors in superhero roles who speak openly about the physical strains of meeting Hollywood’s stringent standards for such characters.

For instance, Hugh Jackman also opened up about the tough, high-calorie diet he followed to maintain his physique for the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie. These candid revelations highlight the often intense and challenging preparations actors undergo to embody these larger-than-life characters.
Fans are now keenly anticipating Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman, set to debut in theaters on July 11, 2025. His journey underscores the demanding preparations actors face and sheds light on the physical transformations required to step into the world of superheroes.
