After more than two decades, DC Comics has brought back Coagula, its first trans hero. Coagula, a member of the Doom Patrol, was created by Rachel Pollack and had been absent from the comics for years. Fans are excited to see her return.

In ‘DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack #1’, Coagula is brought back to life with the help of Robotman and Will Magnus. The story follows Robotman, who learns from Magnus that a part of Coagulaโ€™s consciousness might still exist in his mind. Taking a chance, Robotman dives into his subconscious to find her.

Inside Robotmanโ€™s mind, Coagula is surrounded by visions of her past. Despite distractions from familiar faces, she remains determined to rejoin the real world. With encouragement from an imagined Justice League, she connects with Robotman. A kiss between them channels her psychic energy, allowing Coagula to escape the body pit and return to the lab where Robotman and Magnus are waiting.

Coagula, whose real name is Kate Godwin, was first introduced during Pollackโ€™s run on Doom Patrol. She gained her powers after an encounter with Rebis, giving her the ability to manipulate the molecular stability of objects. She quickly became a valued member of the Doom Patrol, forming a special bond with Robotman. Despite an initial rough start, they grew close, sharing a unique understanding of being in bodies that didnโ€™t feel right.

Coagula’s return is a significant moment for the DC Universe. Her sudden death years ago had left a gap, especially as she was an important figure for trans representation in comics. With DC now focusing more on diversity and inclusion, bringing back Coagula is a step in the right direction. Itโ€™s heartening to see her back, ready to be an active hero once more.

The Doom Patrol, which has evolved to help metahumans and those rejected by society, seems like the perfect place for Coagula. Weโ€™re excited to see what the future holds for her and how sheโ€™ll continue to fight for those who need it most.

‘DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack #1’ is available now.
