The excitement around ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has been quite high, largely due to its marketing approach which smartly teased us without giving too much away. Yet, it seems the latest promotions might have crossed a line by revealing too much, dimming the excitement around its upcoming release.

The charm of the promotional phase was all about catching glimpses of multiversal cameos in the trailers and promotional images. Characters expected to appear included Sabretooth, Sticky Fingaz as Blade, and Azazel, among others. One of the cameos we were all looking forward to was Lady Deathstrike, a character made popular by Kelly Hu in ‘X-Men 2.’ Sadly, a recent image from the movie shows Emma Corrin’s character, Cassandra Nova, with Lady Deathstrike in the background, clearly not portrayed by Kelly Hu. This has left many of us disappointed as the hype for seeing Hu reprise her role vanished instantly.

The revelation that Lady Deathstrike is portrayed by a stand-in, rather than Kelly Hu, has upset many fans more than if a heavy mishap had occurred. From this, it’s clear that most cameos will likely follow suit, featuring supporting artists in familiar costumes rather than the original actors. While bringing back every actor might not have been possible, this approach still feels like a letdown.

Despite these setbacks, there’s hope that ‘Deadpool 3,’ releasing on July 26, might still manage to surprise and entertain us. The involvement of some original actors like Aaron Stanford as Pyro shows that not all hope is lost. We also understand that logistically, it was a challenge to assemble all actors, and some even declined the offer, like Vinnie Jones.

Shawn Levy, the director, has a tough job ahead. He needs to ensure that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ doesn’t end up feeling like a low-budget fan event rather than the blockbuster it aims to be. But, we’re still hopeful. In Wade (Deadpool) we trust, hoping he can still pull off a great movie experience despite these challenges.
