Disney Advances Casting for Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Adaptation

Disney has begun screen tests and chemistry reads for its live-action remake of ‘Tangled’. The process took place in London recently. Casting focuses on leads Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Actresses testing for Rapunzel include Freya Skye from ‘Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires’. Sarah Catherine Hook from ‘The White Lotus’ participated. Teagan Croft of ‘Titans’ and Olivia-Mai Barrett from ‘Invasion’ also tested.

Lola Tung from ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ entered consideration but did not test. Scheduling conflicts with her series likely prevented participation. All candidates demonstrate strong musical abilities.

For Flynn Rider, Milo Manheim from Disney’s ‘Zombies’ franchise tested. Charlie Gillespie from ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ and ‘Splitsville’ joined the reads. Scottish actor Gilli Jones rounded out the group.

Michael Gracey directs the project. He previously helmed ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Better Man’. The film retains its musical elements from the 2010 animated original.

The animated ‘Tangled’ featured voices by Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider. It achieved critical and commercial success. The story draws from the Rapunzel fairy tale.

Mother Gothel remains uncast. Scarlett Johansson previously attached but departed. Commitments to ‘The Exorcist’ reboot and ‘The Batman Part II’ caused the exit.

Production targets a UK shoot starting in June. Timeline may adjust based on final casting decisions. Disney prioritizes performers who can handle song and dance sequences.
