Disney Studios Crosses $6 Billion Global Box Office Milestone in 2025
Walt Disney Studios has become the first and only major studio to surpass $6 billion in worldwide box office earnings for 2025. This achievement marks the company’s strongest performance since 2019. The total includes $2.3 billion from domestic markets and $3.65 billion internationally.
Sixteen wide releases contributed to the figure. Key performers included ‘Zootopia 2’ with $1.3 billion globally to date and ‘Lilo & Stitch’ exceeding $1 billion. Three Marvel Studios titles combined for over $1.3 billion worldwide: ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, ‘Thunderbolts*’, and ‘Captain America: Brave New World’.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ from 20th Century Studios reached $450 million globally within its first week of release. This pushed Disney past the threshold earlier than anticipated.
No other studio has crossed $6 billion since 2015. Warner Bros. ranked second with $4.3 billion. Disney previously achieved this milestone in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
The success highlights the strength of animated franchises and established intellectual properties. ‘Zootopia 2’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch’ stood as the only titles to reach $1 billion among Motion Picture Association releases.
Domestic earnings of $2.3 billion represented the highest among major studios stateside for the year.
International contributions totaled $3.65 billion across markets.
This marks Disney’s fifth time reaching the $6 billion mark overall.
The year featured a mix of animated sequels, live-action remakes, and superhero films.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ accounted for a significant portion of late-year gains with $331 million overseas and $119 million domestically in early days.
Disney’s portfolio demonstrated broad appeal through family-oriented and blockbuster offerings.
The milestone underscores recovery in theatrical exhibition post-pandemic.
No other major distributor approached similar totals in 2025.
