Doctor Strange Defends Keira Knightley’s Honor After a Sexist Remark
Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Sherlock’, and more, has become known not just for his acting but also for his decency. He made headlines for defending Keira Knightley during a press event at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014.
A journalist made an impolite comment about Knightley looking ‘worn out’, to which Cumberbatch responded, ‘That’s not a nice thing to say to one of the most beautiful women on the planet’. Supported by Cumberbatch, Knightley didn’t hold back her feelings either, letting out a sharp ‘Yeah, f**k you!’ to the journalist.
This wasn’t the first time Cumberbatch had to step in during an interview with Knightley. They were promoting their film ‘The Imitation Game’, and a similar incident happened, which Knightley handled with humor, explaining she was just really hungry.
Interestingly, another rude moment occurred when a British reporter called Knightley ‘IKEA Knightley’, criticizing her acting as wooden. Cumberbatch reacted by playfully punching the reporter on the arm, a gesture Knightley appreciated, expressing in Elle UK that everyone needs a friend like that.
These incidents highlight not only the challenges actors face from the media but also the supportive dynamics among co-stars in the entertainment industry. Cumberbatch, through his actions, has shown himself to be a respectful and protective colleague, particularly in his repeated defenses of Knightley’s honor. His commitment to respect among peers sets a positive example and shows why he is admired not just as an actor but as a person.
