Emily Blunt Shares The Kind Of Films She Really Dislikes
Emily Blunt has built a stellar reputation in Hollywood for her incredible range and willingness to take on diverse characters. Despite her success in various genres she recently opened up about the specific types of movies that do not appeal to her. During a candid conversation on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ the actress clarified her stance on the massive world of superhero cinema. While many fans have spent years hoping to see her join a major franchise she admitted that these films are simply not her cup of tea.
The talented star explained that she does not find the genre to be beneath her but it just does not align with her personal tastes. She noted that the market feels somewhat oversaturated with an endless stream of both movies and television series. This sense of exhaustion has made her hesitant to jump into a comic book role unless the character was truly unique. Her comments come after years of speculation regarding her potential involvement in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’.
Fans might recall that she was originally considered for the role of Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’ alongside Robert Downey Jr. However she had to decline the opportunity due to prior contractual obligations for the film ‘Gulliverโs Travels’. The role of Natasha Romanoff eventually went to Scarlett Johansson who became a staple of the franchise. Even though she expressed a deep admiration for the performance of Robert Downey Jr she still feels the superhero genre is not up her alley.
Beyond her feelings on caped crusaders the actress also shared her distaste for scripts that use a specific three word phrase. She revealed to ‘The Telegraph’ that she immediately loses interest when she sees the words strong female lead. In her view these characters are often written as stoic and boring individuals who spend the whole time acting tough. She prefers to play roles that have a secret or some level of complexity rather than a character defined by a label.
Throughout her career she has proven this preference by choosing layered roles in projects like ‘Sicario’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. She also captivated audiences in the horror hit ‘A Quiet Place’ which was directed by her husband John Krasinski. Even when she stepped into the shoes of an iconic character in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ she brought a unique depth to the performance. Her commitment to finding authentic and flawed characters continues to guide her professional choices.
Please share your thoughts on her movie preferences in the comments.
