Fans Are Shocked That John Boyega Does Not Want to Join the MCU as Kang
John Boyega, famous for playing Finn in the Disney Star Wars films, has surprisingly declined a major opportunity to join another giant franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). After Jonathan Majors, who portrayed Kang, parted ways with Disney following misdemeanor charges, fans began suggesting replacements, including Boyega. But in a recent interaction with a fan, Boyega’s use of a Donkey gif from Shrek to shake his head ‘no’ sent a clear message: he’s not interested.
The actor’s disinterest in the role has surprised many of us. Some of us wondered why he would pass up the chance, especially considering the financial benefits. Others suggested he might still be affected by his previous experiences with big franchises. It seems some of us are realizing Marvel might not be the center of every actor’s universe.
Despite the initial shock, many supported his decision, respecting his choice to perhaps avoid potential pitfalls he encountered with Disney previously. Meanwhile, Disney has shown some attempts to mend fences, inviting Boyega to discuss better support for BIPOC actors and appreciating his approval of their defense of Moses Ingram against online attacks.
As the search for a new Kang continues, rumors swirl about who might take up the mantle. Names like Colman Domingo have been floated around. Domingo, an Oscar-nominated actor, has shown interest in the role, though his age might be a casting concern compared to the younger Majors.
We might hear more about the new Kang during the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel’s future direction post-Phase Five will be a hot topic. Daniel Richtman hinted at this during his recent Patreon discussion, sparking curiosity about who will next portray the MCU’s formidable antagonist.
As we gear up for Marvel’s big reveal at Comic-Con, it’s clear the universe is always expanding, sometimes in unexpected ways. Disney is already setting the stage for new developments and possibly new faces in familiar roles.
