Fans Fume Over ‘The Acolyte’ Merch After Series Gets Axed
In an unexpected turn of events, ‘The Acolyte,’ a Star Wars TV series, was cancelled by Disney+ earlier this month. Almost simultaneously, the official Disney Store removed the merchandise related to the show. Although a few items have recently reappeared, this hasn’t gone over well with the show’s critics.
Now, upset fans are targeting the remaining ‘The Acolyte’ merchandise with negative reviews, a practice known as review-bombing. These fans are leaving harsh feedback on items like t-shirts, with comments that critique Disney rather than the merchandise quality. One typical review reads, ‘The failure of one, The failure of two, The failure of Disney.’
The series, starring Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae, followed the journey of a Jedi Master investigating a series of crimes, only to uncover a dark conspiracy. Despite the initial buzz, viewer interest dropped after the first few episodes, which reportedly contributed to the show’s cancellation.
Lee Jung-jae, who portrayed Jedi Master Sol, expressed his admiration for the show’s creative direction, despite his character’s death in the first season. He praised the showrunner, Leslye, for her storytelling and character creation, noting his personal disappointment over the show not continuing.
Interestingly, there’s a strong online movement hoping to revive ‘The Acolyte.’ Over 53,000 people have signed a petition asking Disney to renew the series. This stands in stark contrast to another petition advocating against the renewal, which has gathered just over 8,200 signatures.
As the debate continues, it’s clear that ‘The Acolyte’ has left a mark, whether it’s through its storyline or the controversy surrounding its cancellation and merchandise. What are your thoughts on this series’ abrupt end?
