Fans Rally to Revive ‘The Acolyte’ with Growing Petition

Just a day after its cancellation, the ‘The Acolyte’ series from Disney has sparked a significant fan movement. A petition launched on Change.org by a supporter named Blue Smith has already gathered around 39,000 signatures (in the time of writting) in an effort to save this Star Wars series. Set during the High Republic, the show introduced viewers to a less explored era through a story that resonated with many.

We loved the series for its diverse cast and fresh narrative. The series starred Amandla Stenberg as twin sisters Osha and Mae, with Lee Jung-jae as Jedi Master Sol, and included Dafne Keen and Manny Jacinto among others. Jacinto, known for his roles in ‘The Good Place’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ was particularly a hit with fans as The Stranger/Qimir, adding a new level of intrigue to the Star Wars universe.

The plot follows Sol as he unravels a series of severe crimes, leading back to his former Padawan. This storyline not only maintained a strong weekly viewership but also set a record for Disney+, drawing 4.8 million viewers in its first 24 hours, making it the most-watched premiere of 2024.

Critics and viewers have noted that ‘The Acolyte’ stood out for its inclusive casting and the unique stories it brought to the table, challenging the typical Star Wars narratives centered around figures like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. The series offered a captivating mystery and a deep dive into the dark corners of the High Republic, paving the way for new adventures in the Star Wars saga.

Despite the mixed reviews and challenges from some negative feedback, the affection for ‘The Acolyte’ remains strong online, with many of us rallying for a second season. History shows that fan actions can influence network decisions—like when Netflix revived ‘Warrior Nun’ due to fan demand, choosing to continue the story in a series of films.
