Here’s What’s Going Wrong with ‘The Boys’ Season 4

‘The Boys’ Season 4 hit screens on June 13, 2024, and it’s stirring up quite a reaction. The first three episodes dropped together, with the remaining five to release weekly on Amazon Prime. Despite high praise from critics, marking it Certified Fresh at 95%, viewers arenโ€™t as thrilledโ€”itโ€™s the first season to dip below a 50% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, currently at 49%.

Critics like Ben Travers from IndieWire and Bob Strauss from The Wrap are praising the season. They’re impressed with how the series balances multiple story arcs while maintaining its edge and humor. Nick Schager from The Daily Beast also highlighted the sharp satire and outrageous content that fans expect. Yet, we’re seeing a different tune from the audience.

This season is pushing boundaries with its political content more than ever. Showrunner Eric Kripke has dialed up the political satire, but this hasn’t sat well with everyone. Some of us think the show is getting too political. Others might not agree with the politics it portrays. There’s also been some backlash over certain decisions made for characters, which adds to the discontent.

Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t check if reviewers have actually watched the episodes, so some negative ratings could be from those who havenโ€™t even seen the season yet. Itโ€™s possible that some people are just reacting to parts of the show they find controversial without really watching it.

We’ll keep an eye on how opinions evolve as more episodes come out. Itโ€™s clear that not everyone is happy with the direction the show is taking, but whether these views change with more content remains to be seen.
