Homelander Turns into Donald Trump in ‘The Boys’ Season 4
‘The Boys’ Season 4 dives deep into a presidential campaign, hitting our screens during another election year. The opening episode, ‘Department of Dirty Tricks,’ reveals that the election results favor Claudia Doumit’s character, Victoria Neuman, and her running mate, Bob Singer, played by Jim Beaver. Although Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr, isn’t running, he’s very much influencing things behind the scenes.
In the latest episodes, Homelander is plotting to take over America, making the newly elected Neuman his puppet. This mirrors the way the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, has always seen Homelander as a symbol for Donald Trump, from their attitudes to their controversial hairstyles.
We saw Homelander’s trial end quickly this season. He was declared ‘not guilty’ after a short courtroom scene. This contrasts sharply with real-world events where, just weeks before the premiere, Trump was found guilty of multiple counts of financial fraud.
In the show, Homelander is trying to manipulate events so he can save the day and gain control ‘legally.’ He’s working with a new character, Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward, who’s supposedly the smartest person around. Their strategy involves instilling fear in the public, a tactic that echoes Trump’s political maneuvers.
I think Homelander’s personal drama is also worth noting. We see more of him as a father this season, but he’s not winning any Dad of the Year awards. His interactions with his son, Ryan, are harsh and manipulative.
The series also introduced some dark twists with other characters like Todd, who meets a brutal end for being a Homelander fanboy, reminiscent of the real-life dangers of radicalization.
‘The Boys’ keeps blending fiction with sharp jabs at real-life politics. It’s gripping, disturbing, and makes us think about where lines are drawn in entertainment and reality. The show streams on Prime Video, with new episodes every Thursday.
