Homelander’s Strength Questioned: Not as Mighty as Superman After All

Antony Starr’s portrayal of Homelander in ‘The Boys’ paints him as a supreme and unstoppable force. As the leader of The Seven, his abilities have often been likened to those of Superman, sparking many fan debates. However, recent episodes and plot developments suggest that Homelander might not be as formidable as we once thought.

In ‘The Boys,’ which is a sharp critique of superhero culture, Homelander showcases powers similar to Superman, like superhuman strength and heat vision. Despite this, his invincibility is increasingly being questioned. In Season 3, when Homelander confronts characters like Queen Maeve and the Compound V-enhanced Butcher, his vulnerabilities begin to surface.

During these confrontations, Homelander struggles more than expected. He even has to retreat from a fight to avoid defeat, a situation Superman rarely finds himself in, considering his battles with equally formidable foes.

Fans on social platforms like X (formerly Twitter) have been vocal about these discrepancies. One user, Daniel Richtman, pointed out, “Like seriously, he’s not THAT powerful,” highlighting how a united front from multiple powerful characters could take him down.

Others argue that Homelander’s true strength lies in his ability to intimidate and control others, rather than in direct combat. This becomes apparent as he often uses fear rather than fighting skills to keep other members of The Seven in line.

Despite some fans defending Homelander’s retreats in battles as strategic, many agree that he lacks genuine combat skills, relying mostly on his powers. This is a stark contrast to Superman, who has been trained in various forms of combat.

The Boys,’ available on Prime Video, continues to explore these themes in Season 4, where Homelander’s psychological needs for affection and approval play a significant role in his actions. This adds a layer of complexity to his character, suggesting that his powers might not only be limited but also diminishing over time.

As the series progresses, it becomes clear that while Homelander can dominate in terms of raw power, his inability to effectively deal with adversity and his psychological vulnerabilities make him less invincible than many initially believed.
