Hugh Jackman is sparking excitement with his role in the upcoming movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, set to release on July 26, 2024. The buzz around this film has grown, especially after the release of a recent trailer that hints at Wolverine’s return. This has led to a flurry of theories about whether Jackman’s character in this movie is the same Logan from the animated series X-Men ’97.

Industry insider My Time to Shine Hello addressed these rumors on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He responded to a fan’s query by stating that the Wolverine we will see in the movie is ‘a new variant we haven’t seen before’. This suggests that while fans are eager to connect dots, the character could be quite different from what we’ve seen in previous adaptations.

The trailer itself added more fuel to the fire. It includes a line about Wolverine disappointing his world and scenes showing him troubled by his past. These moments remind some fans of the tragic Genosha massacre depicted in X-Men ’97. On Reddit, a user named Amusing Artistic speculated that this past failure might be what haunts Logan in the new film. The character is shown in a barren land and seems disillusioned about being a hero.

Despite these connections, it’s important to remember that the X-Men ’97 series is not part of the MCU canon. The series’ creator, Beau DeMayo, has made it clear that the show is its ‘own thing’. So, the Logan we’re waiting to see on the big screen will likely be a fresh take on the beloved character.

Hugh Jackman also hinted at something new, claiming that this movie will show sides of Wolverine never seen before in previous films. While we might want to believe the Logan in both productions is the same, it seems we are in for some surprises.

As fans, we should probably keep our expectations in check and prepare to meet a new Wolverine this time around. Don’t forget to catch up on X-Men 97 on Disney+, where episodes are released every Wednesday, to keep the Wolverine spirit alive until the movie premieres.
