Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Critiqued as ‘Gay’ by Another Actor Who’s Relieved He Missed the Role

Hugh Jackman is widely beloved for his portrayal of Wolverine, but not everyone is a fan. Glenn Danzig, a musician and songwriter who was also considered for the role, recently expressed relief that he didn’t end up playing the mutant character. Danzig criticized Jackman’s performance as ‘gay’ and stated that he was grateful he didn’t take the part.

According to Danzig, Jackman wasn’t originally the top choice for Wolverine. The role was initially offered to Dougray Scott, who had to drop out due to a disagreement with the director. That’s when Jackman, now synonymous with the character, stepped in. Danzig shared these details in an interview with the Los Angeles Weekly.

In the same interview, Danzig didn’t hold back his opinions on Jackman’s interpretation of Wolverine, suggesting his own version of the character would have been starkly different. He implied that if he had been cast, his portrayal would have been more authentic to what he sees as the spirit of Wolverine.

Danzig further elaborated that he felt Jackman’s performance made Wolverine less appealing to him and is a key reason he’s glad he wasn’t cast. He described the Logan portrayal as ‘terrible’ in his view, contradicting the overwhelming fan admiration for Jackman’s role.

On behalf of many fans, I can say Jackman’s take on Wolverine has been nothing short of spectacular, often described as incredible and groundbreaking. But it goes to show, not everyone sees it the same way.

This candid feedback from Danzig highlights how diverse opinions can be, even regarding performances that many consider iconic. Whether you agree with Danzig or stand with the majority of fans, it’s clear that Jackman’s Wolverine has left a lasting impact on the superhero genre.
