Hulk vs Wolverine: The Epic Clash That Outshines the Rest
Marvel hit a home run 15 years ago with an animated feature that brought us the epic showdown between Hulk and Wolverine. In ‘Hulk Vs.’, directed by Frank Paur and Sam Liu, we got not just one, but two incredible 40-minute films. Each film showcases the Hulk going head-to-head with a Marvel hero. The first pits him against Wolverine, and the second against Thor. These battles are intense and a lot of fun to watch.
What stands out most for many of us is the Wolverine fight. It’s a clash we’ve been eager to see since Wolverine first popped up in ‘The Incredible Hulk #181.’ With Wolverine now appearing in the MCU, thereโs hope we might see a similar big-screen brawl. If so, MCU creators could learn a lot from the animated ‘Hulk Vs.’
The movie ‘Hulk Vs. Wolverine’ starts with Wolverine tracking Hulk, whoโs vanished after a rampage. The setting is a snowy Canadian wilderness, perfect for a big fight. When Wolverine finds Bruce Banner, it doesnโt take long before the fists (and claws) start flying. They battle fiercely, neither willing to back down. The fight only stops when a group called Weapon X interferes, wanting to capture both heroes for their own sinister plans.
In the animated feature, Weapon X includes characters like Deadpool, Sabertooth, Omega Red, and Lady Deathstrike. They all work for The Professor, who wants to turn Hulk and Wolverine into controllable weapons. This fight between Hulk and Wolverine isnโt just about brute force; itโs about two individuals who’ve been turned into weapons against their will. This adds depth to their battle.
The main takeaway for the MCU? It should consider how well ‘Hulk Vs.’ executed this fight. The battle flows well and uses the natural environment, like a fight underwater in a river, to enhance the action. These details could look fantastic in a live-action adaptation.
When we saw Hulk in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ battle Iron Man, it reminded us how Hulk shines in these hero vs hero matchups. Thereโs already been a small hint in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ about a potential Hulk vs Wolverine clash. Now that the X-Men are slated to join the MCU more fully, adapting this iconic comic book fight seems like a natural next step.
If Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ it would be the perfect setting for him to take on Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. A live-action version of their fight could be a standout moment for the MCU, offering Jackmanโs Wolverine one of his toughest challenges yet.
We need to see Hulk and Wolverine square off. Their animated battle set a high bar. Itโs about time we got to see them go toe-to-toe in the MCU. This is one adaptation Marvel should definitely prioritize.
