Iron Monger Stirs Up New Trouble in Marvel’s Latest Iron Man Series
Iron Monger has made a comeback in the Marvel universe, this time in the new Iron Man series, where he’s giving Tony Stark a run for his money. In the past, Obadiah Stane was famously known for being the first to wear the Iron Monger armor in the Iron Man movie portrayed by Jeff Bridges.
With the new comic book release, Tony faces fresh challenges, including the classic armored villain, who’s had a serious power boost to match Iron Man’s capabilities.
The storyline, unfolding in ‘Iron Man #1‘, kicks off with Tony Stark in danger of losing his company, Stark Unlimited. The takeover is spearheaded by A.I.M. and Roxxon with Doctor Rappaccini leading the charge.
Adding to Iron Man’s troubles, his armor gets compromised by magical malware, pushing him to seek out his anti-magic mysterium suit. However, upon reaching the mysterium’s hidden location, Tony is confronted by Justine Hammer, who has resurrected and is now wielding the new and improved Iron Monger.
Justine, the daughter of another of Tony’s old rivals, Justin Hammer, has previously teamed up with villains like the Mandarin and Ezekiel Stane against Iron Man. After her betrayal and death, A.I.M. brought her back to join forces with Roxxon in the Stark-Roxxon War. As she gains control over Tony’s suits, Justine poses a formidable threat, using them against him.
As the battle intensifies on the streets of New York, Justine teases Tony with hints that one of his old Avengers allies might have turned against him. The situation grows dire as Tony, a man of science, finds himself outmatched by the magical elements now allied with his enemies.
Stripped of his armors, Tony resorts to building what’s called the ‘Improvised Iron Man’, using whatever scraps he can find. Spencer Ackerman explains this version of Iron Man is born out of desperation and vulnerability, highlighting a raw side of Tony rarely seen.
This makeshift armor, which includes unique elements never seen before, will debut in the upcoming issue.
As we dive into this new chapter, it’s clear that Iron Man’s journey back to his roots will be anything but easy.
