James Gunn Exposes DC’s Disastrous Handling of Henry Cavill with Blistering Critique

James Gunn defended his actions in the wake of the announcement that Henry Cavill would not be returning as Superman, leading to a reboot of the franchise titled ‘Superman’. This comes after a significant period where Dwayne Johnson had actively worked to reintegrate Cavill into the DC Universe, advocating for his return to the iconic role. Unfortunately, Cavill’s brief celebration on social media about his return was short-lived.

Gunn, now part of the leadership at DC as a co-CEO alongside Safran, didn’t shy away from criticizing the previous executives at Warner Bros. and DC, as well as Cavill’s agents, for the actor being shuffled around without clear direction. The news of Gunn writing the screenplay for ‘Superman’ before the release of ‘Black Adam’ shed more light on the behind-the-scenes decisions. It appears that even as Cavill and Johnson were planning a resurgence for Superman, a reboot was already secretly in the works.

This revelation makes it seem as though Cavill’s hoped-for comeback was doomed from the start. When Gunn uses the phrase ‘dicked around’ to describe Cavill’s treatment, it seems it might even be an understatement. It’s now clear that Cavill was never truly in the running to don the cape again as the DCU’s leading hero.

The disclosure of these details highlights the chaotic management of Superman’s character in recent years and the internal conflicts within DC that have likely impacted its broader cinematic universe. While fans were hopeful for a continuation of Cavill’s portrayal of Superman, the unfolding events suggest a different path was being paved all along, away from the SnyderVerse, and without Cavill at the helm.
