James Gunn Recalls David Corenswet’s Superman Screen Test With Rachel Brosnahan

It’s been a thrilling year since David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan stepped into the roles of Superman and Lois Lane. James Gunn, the writer and director, recently shared some insights about their screen test. He said on Threads, ‘When David and Rachel first read their lines together, there was an instant spark. They’re two of the most dedicated and dynamic actors I’ve worked with.’

The casting announcements have been rolling in since June 27, 2023, adding excitement around the upcoming Superman film. The latest additions include Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Christopher McDonald as journalists from Daily Planet. Others in the ensemble are Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. The cast also features Anthony Carrigan, Edi Gathegi, Marรญa Gabriela de Farรญa, and Skyler Gisondo in various roles.

We’re not just getting another origin story. This movie dives deeper into Supermanโ€™s struggles to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his Earthly upbringing. Lex Luthor is set up as the main villain, but he might not be the only challenge Superman faces. The film will link to the Creature Commandos series, which introduces characters appearing in both the animated series and the movie.

James Gunn is steering this project, which is part of the DCU’s Chapter 1, with a release date of July 11, 2025. I’m eager to see how this blend of familiar faces and new talent unfolds on the big screen. What about you?
