James Spader’s Ultron Returns in New Marvel Series on Disney+
James Spader is set to bring Ultron back to life in the upcoming Marvel series on Disney+, currently known as ‘Vision Quest’. This series is a continuation from the events of ‘WandaVision’, where Paul Bettany’s character, Vision, revived in a white robotic form, embarks on a journey to discover his identity.
The series, loosely titled ‘Vision Quest’, taps into a classic storyline from the Vision comics. Terry Matalas, previously the showrunner for ‘Star Trek: Picard’, is leading the project. This news adds to the excitement building since Vision’s intriguing revival storyline in ‘WandaVision’, which featured two forms of Vision: the original body repaired and color-shifted to white, and another formed by the Scarlet Witchโs magic.
Spader’s character, Ultron, was last seen in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ as a formidable foe defeated by Vision. In typical comic book style, the end was not truly the end for Ultron, and his return is highly anticipated among us Marvel fans.
Adding to the development narrative, the series ‘Vision Quest’ will pick up threads from both ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, where Vision originally met his demise. Bettany recently confirmed his eagerness to continue as Vision in the MCU during a convention, responding with a resounding ‘yes’ to a fan’s inquiry.
Interestingly, this isnโt the only Vision-centered project stirred up post-‘WandaVision’. Initially, a spinoff focusing on White Vision was reported to be in the works back in 2022 with Jac Schaefer at the helm, who then moved on to run the ‘Agatha All Along’ spinoff.
Writers Megan McDonnell from ‘WandaVision’ and Peter Cameron from ‘Moon Knight’ were once linked to the earlier version of the Vision spinoff, but it remains unclear if they are involved in Matalasโ project.
Disney+ plans to premiere ‘Vision Quest’ in 2026, and it’s shaping up to be a must-watch for those of us following the evolving Marvel universe. The return of James Spader as the voice of Ultron is sure to add a thrilling layer to the already complex character of Vision as he navigates his existence.
