In the ever-evolving world of comic book adaptations, it’s not uncommon for characters to come back from the dead. However, Joel Kinnaman, who played the honorable Rick Flag in James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ seems to have taken a stand against returning in ‘Peacemaker’ season 2.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant about his new movie ‘The Silent Hour,’ Kinnaman gave a sharp response when asked about his participation. ‘I don’t know what to say. That’s ridiculous. I would never. I would never be on a show like that. It’s not what I do. It’s not what I do,’ he stated emphatically.

Earlier, director Peter Sollett tagged Kinnaman in a social media post celebrating the completion of his episodes, sparking rumors that Kinnaman might appear in the new season. Despite Kinnaman’s role of Rick Flag meeting a grim end at the hands of Peacemaker (John Cena) in ‘The Suicide Squad,’ some speculated that Kinnaman might reappear, perhaps in flashbacks or in a new twist to the story.

While the actor’s blunt dismissal could be a tactic to keep details under wraps, it’s equally possible that he genuinely feels ‘Peacemaker’ doesn’t align with his career path. Adding to the intrigue, reports suggest that Frank Grillo will portray Rick Flag Sr., seeking revenge against Peacemaker for his son’s death. This plot twist points to Kinnaman’s potential involvement in flashbacks, although another scenario might be at play.

Moreover, a recent set photo showed a mural with Peacemaker, his father in the White Dragon outfit, and an unknown character suspected to be Christopher Smith’s brother, Keith. This image hints at broader narrative developments, potentially involving a shift in reality, as James Gunn hinted at changes from season 1, aiming to integrate the Peacemaker characters into a new reality where Flag might still be alive.

The series, produced by Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller, with John Cena as co-executive producer and Stacy Littlejohn as consulting producer, plans to return in late 2025. ‘Peacemaker’ continues to explore its titular character’s extreme methods for achieving peace, following the events of Gunn’s 2021 film.

As fans, we can only speculate whether Kinnaman’s harsh words were a genuine expression of disinterest or a calculated move to stir up excitement for the upcoming season. Either way, the blend of behind-the-scenes drama and on-screen action continues to keep the audience hooked on the unfolding saga of ‘Peacemaker.’
