Keanu Reeves recently shared some thrilling news about ‘Constantine 2’ during his visit to ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’. He expressed his gratitude towards Colbert for reigniting interest in a sequel to the 2005 hit, ‘Constantine’. Reeves mentioned that what started as a distant possibility is now gaining traction, with discussions about hiring a writer to craft the script currently underway.

Back in 2021, when Colbert asked Reeves about any past role he’d love to revisit, Reeves enthusiastically chose John Constantine, the character from the DC supernatural thriller. His declaration has sparked considerable excitement among us, as it seems there’s still a lot of groundwork needed before the film can come to fruition. Nonetheless, Reeves is committed to bringing the character back to life, navigating the celestial battlefields once more.

Excitingly, during a recent Reddit AMA, Keanu Reeves revealed he has been in discussions with James Gunn about the future of ‘Constantine 2’, which adds an extra layer of anticipation for what’s to come. Furthermore, Akiva Goldsman confirmed to Deadline that he is indeed writing the script for the sequel, ensuring that the project is in experienced hands.

Director Francis Lawrence also added to the buzz in an interview with THR, stating that the team is likely to reconvene after Thanksgiving to delve deeper into the project, which suggests that things are moving along nicely. Collider brought another intriguing tidbit to light, with Goldsman discussing various imaginative ideas for the sequel, including one where Jesus Christ would appear as a character, hinting at the ambitious scope they’re considering for the narrative.

About ‘Constantine 2’, we know the original movie was released in 2005 and featured Reeves as John Constantine, a man gifted with the ability to see the spirits roaming the Earth. Despite his powers, Constantine is burdened by his fate to be damned to Hell for eternity unless he can redeem himself through his investigative work in the occult and paranormal realms. While the first film received mixed reviews, it has built a strong fan base over the years. This growing fan base, combined with the explosion of comic book movies, has set a promising stage for the sequel.

In the meantime, Reeves keeps busy with several other projects. He’s set to appear in the ‘John Wick’ spinoff ‘Ballerina’, the comedy ‘Good Fortune’, Jonah Hill’s black comedy ‘Outcome’, and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’, where he voices the character Shadow.

The anticipation for ‘Constantine 2’ continues to build. It’s clear that Reeves is passionate about reprising his role and exploring more of Constantine’s dark and intriguing world. We are all looking forward to seeing how this project unfolds.
