Kumail Nanjiani Set to Shine as Booster Gold in New DC Series

Exciting news for superhero enthusiasts! Kumail Nanjiani is confirmed to take on the role of Booster Gold in the new series under DC Studios. You might know Nanjiani from his standout role as Dinesh in ‘Silicon Valley’, his autobiographical movie ‘The Big Sick’, and as Kingo in ‘Eternals’ by Marvel Studios.

Booster Gold, also known as Michael Jon Carter, has quite the backstory. Originally a star quarterback at Gotham University, his life took a sharp turn due to his father’s ill influence, leading him to be expelled after a scandal. He then lands a job as a museum night guard, where he seizes the chance to steal a power suit, a flight ring, and a time sphere along with a robot sidekick named Skeets. With these, he travels from the future to our present, aspiring to reinvent himself as a hero.

James Gunn, Co-CEO of DC Studios, first brought Booster Gold into the spotlight in a January 2023 announcement video. Gunn described the show as exploring themes of imposter syndrome, calling Booster Gold a ‘loser from the future’. However, details on the project have been scarce since its initial reveal.

Recently, @DanielRPK and Nexus Point News provided some updates. In February 2024, it was revealed on X that Booster Gold had been successfully cast. Last month, Nexus Point News shared that the series will be penned by a team including Danny McBride, John Carcieri, and Jeff Fradley, known for their collaboration on ‘The Righteous Gemstones’. When Nanjiani shared an image of the upcoming Superman (2025) logo with the comment ‘In.’, it sparked further discussions about his involvement in the DC Universe.

The series ‘Booster Gold’ is part of ‘Chapter 1 – Gods and Monsters’ of the DC Universe, and it is currently in development for Max by DC Studios. We can’t wait to see how Nanjiani brings this unique character to life!
