LaKeith Stanfield will portray Dennis Rodman in the upcoming film ’48 Hours in Vegas’. The project focuses on Rodman’s infamous 1998 Las Vegas trip during the Chicago Bulls’ NBA Finals run.

Producers include Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood through their Lord Miller banner. Jordan Flynn wrote the screenplay based on the real events surrounding Rodman’s 48-hour absence from the team.

Rodman, a five-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer, gained notoriety for his rebounding prowess, defensive skills, and eccentric personality during his career with teams like the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.

Stanfield, acclaimed for roles in ‘Get Out’, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’, and ‘The Book of Clarence’, takes on the lead in this comedic retelling of the basketball star’s wild excursion.

The film recounts how Rodman convinced coach Phil Jackson for a brief vacation, which extended dramatically and involved encounters with Carmen Electra, whom he was dating at the time.

Michael Jordan eventually retrieved Rodman from Las Vegas to rejoin the Bulls for their championship push against the Utah Jazz.

Lionsgate acquired the project in a competitive bidding situation. The studio plans to position it as a high-profile comedy drawing on Rodman’s larger-than-life persona.

Stanfield’s casting aligns with his track record of embodying complex, charismatic figures across genres. He earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’.

Rodman’s career statistics include averaging 13.1 rebounds per game across 14 seasons, earning two Defensive Player of the Year awards, and seven consecutive rebounding titles.

The biopic joins other sports-themed projects exploring iconic athletes’ off-court lives, following films like those on Mike Tyson and the Williams sisters.

Production details remain in development, with no director attached publicly yet. The script emphasizes the chaotic yet pivotal weekend in Rodman’s legacy.

This role offers Stanfield another opportunity to headline a major studio feature centered on a cultural icon from the 1990s sports era.

The announcement underscores ongoing interest in NBA stories from the Bulls’ dynasty period, which dominated professional basketball in the decade.

Stanfield continues building a diverse filmography blending drama, horror, and now biographical comedy elements.
