The Original Green Lantern Project

The original show was supposed to feature multiple Green Lanterns, including Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Sinestro, and Kilowog. However, the project was shelved after leadership changes at Warner Bros. Discovery, and the focus shifted to John Stewart.

After the departure of Walter Hamada from Warner Bros. Discovery, the Green Lantern series was refocused. The new direction centers on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, moving away from the ensemble cast originally planned.

James Gunn and Peter Safran decided to make the series a crucial part of their new DCU. They described it as a ‘huge HBO-quality event’ that will play a significant role in the overarching story of their film and television universe.
