Leslye Headland, known for her direction in ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ has shown interest in adapting the acclaimed video game ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ (KOTOR) into a live-action format. This game, developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts in 2003, is widely regarded as one of the standout Star Wars games. Set roughly 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, it explores the time of the ancient Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian Wars.

The story is influenced by the ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi’ comics and revolves around the conflict instigated by the Mandalorians against the Republic. Despite reluctance from the Jedi, the renegade Jedi Knights, Revan and Malak, lead the charge to defend the Republic. The game was a massive hit, scooping up multiple awards such as the Game Developers Choice Awards’ 2004 Game of the Year and the BAFTA Games Awards’ Best Xbox Game of the Year.

In a recent chat with Omelete, Headland expressed a particular fascination with Kreia, a key figure from KOTOR 2. She mentioned, ‘I’ve always wanted to explore a live-action version of the Knights of the Old Republic game and Kreia’s character… I think it would be a really interesting story to bring to life.’ Her knack for delving into less explored eras of the Star Wars universe could serve this adaptation well.

The director’s recent project, ‘The Acolyte,’ though it garnered mixed reactionsโ€”receiving acclaim from critics but a more tempered response from viewersโ€”still managed to mark its presence strongly on Disney+, setting records as the most-watched premiere of the year for an original show on the platform.

Rumors have been swirling about a possible ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ live-action series in the works for Disney+. Given Headland’s track record and enthusiasm for the source material, her involvement could bring a fresh and engaging perspective to this beloved storyline. For those of us who are fans, the thought of seeing KOTOR and Kreia in live-action is thrilling and holds a lot of promise.
