The star of ‘Wuthering Heights’ captured every eye during a recent premiere by wearing a historic piece of jewelry that once belonged to a cinema legend. Margot Robbie arrived at the Los Angeles screening on January 28 wearing a heart shaped diamond necklace previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor. This rare item is known as the Taj Mahal diamond and carries a value of approximately 8.8 million dollars. The appearance of such a significant archival piece highlights the actress’s dedication to using fashion as a storytelling tool for her characters.

Working closely with her stylist Andrew Mukamal the actress selected the Cartier necklace to match the dark romance of her new film. The piece was famously a gift from Richard Burton to Taylor on her fortieth birthday in 1972. It features an intricate gold and ruby chain designed to resemble traditional silk cords used in the seventeenth century. The diamond itself is inscribed with a Persian message stating that love is everlasting. This romantic sentiment served as a perfect companion to the gothic themes found in the adaptation of the classic novel.

Robbie paired the legendary jewel with a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown that featured a nude lace bodice and a dramatic red and black train. She explained to reporters that the deep history of the necklace felt appropriate for the premiere event. The actress also noted that she and her team strive to be intentional with every red carpet choice they make. By wearing a jewel associated with Taylor she effectively connected modern Hollywood with the glamour of a bygone era.

The history of the gemstone stretches back much further than the golden age of cinema. It was originally owned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahangir before being passed down to his son who commissioned the Taj Mahal. Following the death of Taylor the necklace was sold at auction in 2011 for a record breaking price. Its return to the public eye alongside Robbie has sparked significant conversation among fashion enthusiasts and historians alike.

The actress further accessorized her look with diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz and a vintage ring from Fred Leighton. These additions complemented the rich tones of the rubies and the historical weight of the main pendant. Her co-star Jacob Elordi was also present at the event where the two shared moments reflecting their onscreen chemistry. This appearance marks another successful entry in her history of using thematic fashion to promote her projects.
