Marvel Comics Unveils ‘Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell’ at NYCC 2024
At this year’s New York Comic Con, Marvel Comics announced a thrilling new project titled ‘DAREDEVIL: COLD DAY IN HELL.’ The revelation came during the Marvel Fanfare Panel, hosted by Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski. He was joined by acclaimed artist Steve McNiven and renowned writer Charles Soule, setting the stage for a dramatic return to one of Marvel’s beloved characters.
The upcoming series marks a significant return for McNiven, his first major project with Marvel Comics in almost ten years. He teams up once again with Charles Soule, known for his influential run on DAREDEVIL in 2015 and their joint work on ‘DEATH OF WOLVERINE.’ Their collaboration promises to breathe new life into the character of Daredevil, presenting him in a future Marvel Universe teetering on the brink of disaster.
The story introduces an older, worn-down Matt Murdock who, though stripped of his powers and no longer the Daredevil, remains the fearless defender of a shattered city. His life takes an unexpected turn when a catastrophic event triggers the return of his abilities, thrusting him back into the superhero role. Tasked by Captain America with a crucial mission, Murdock becomes the last hope in a fight against pervasive evil.
During the panel, Soule shared insights into their creative process, emphasizing the deep trust and unique collaborative spirit between him and McNiven. ‘The way we’ve created this book wouldn’t be possible without such a strong partnership,’ Soule commented, highlighting their four-year journey crafting the narrative.

McNiven drew inspiration from legendary comic book creator Frank Miller, particularly his work on ‘Dark Knight Returns.’ ‘I’m motivated by Frank’s storytelling,’ McNiven remarked, ‘especially how a 16-panel grid can push narrative techniques in new directions.’
Fans were also treated to a sneak peek at some interior artwork, which promises to align with the gritty and intense storyline envisioned by its creators.
As anticipation builds, more details about ‘DAREDEVIL: COLD DAY IN HELL’ will be released in the coming months, promising a fresh and compelling take on one of Marvel’s most complex heroes.
