Marvel Melds Alien and Avengers Universes, Unveiling New Layers to the Engineers

In the latest Marvel comic series, an exciting crossover brings together the worlds of ‘Alien’ and ‘Avengers’.

The second issue of ‘Aliens vs. Avengers’, written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Esad Ribić, continues from a dramatic opening. The Avengers find themselves outmatched and scattered across the universe as Xenomorphs invade.

The twist comes with a reimagined scene from ‘Alien: Covenant’, introducing the synthetic character David, who made his first appearance in Ridley Scott’s 2012 prequel.

Here, David reigns over humanoid creatures similar to the Engineers, who are said to have created humanity.

In this alternate Marvel Universe, the existence of the Engineers adds a profound layer to the narrative.

Known from Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ as humanity’s creators, their presence in the comic suggests they might also be connected to the origins of Marvel’s superheroes.

As the Avengers grapple with a possible retreat from Earth, the implications of the Engineers and David’s disdain for his creators add complexity to the ongoing battle against the Xenomorph threat.

Hickman and Ribić seamlessly weave the lore of both franchises, far beyond a simple battle for survival.

The inclusion of deeper themes from the Alien series, like corporate malfeasance and synthetic life, alongside Marvel’s rich universe, including places like Krakoa and encounters with the Shi’ar, make ‘Aliens vs. Avengers’ a standout in comic storytelling this year.

The second issue promises more than just action; it’s a confrontation with questions about creation, power, and survival. The Avengers’ encounter with the Engineers and the themes from ‘Prometheus’ could redefine their role in a universe now shared with Alien lore.

Aliens vs. Avengers #2‘ hits the shelves on November 6, 2024, courtesy of Marvel Comics. Expect to see Esad Ribić’s main cover art along with variant covers by Paco Medina, Andrea Sorrentino, and others.
