Marvel Quietly Brings She-Hulk Series to an End
Marvel has quietly announced that their comic series ‘Sensational She-Hulk’ will end with its 10th issue, confirming the news via writer Rainbow Rowell. Rowell expressed sadness over the conclusion of her work with the character, which will be co-written by Andrés Genolet and published on 31 July. She-Hulk’s storyline will wrap up a two-year run, surprising many fans including myself, especially considering the character’s recent boost in popularity from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In the MCU, major character deaths are rare, with most heroes seeming invincible. Only a few, like Black Widow and Iron Man, have faced notable ends, usually in highly significant films. In contrast, Marvel Comics shows no character is safe, often marking their end with shocking and heartbreaking outcomes. For example, last year, Ms. Marvel was killed off only to return as a mutant.
The comic book world has recently been brutal, with another character just revived after years only to be quickly eliminated again. We are now bracing ourselves for She-Hulk’s exit from the comics, though thankfully, her ending isn’t marked by death but by the close of her storyline.
Rowell shared her thoughts on Twitter, stating she would have happily continued writing She-Hulk if possible. Her tweets reflected a genuine connection with the character and a reluctance to part ways: ‘This end came too soon for me, but I would have kept writing Jen and Jack forever. There’d never be a good time to say goodbye. Thank you for reading our book and reviewing it, and for coming here to talk to me about it.’
Rowell also revealed that knowing the series would end allowed her to craft a conclusive arc, promising a meaningful wrap-up for fans.
Despite the end of this series, it’s clear She-Hulk will reappear in the Marvel universe someday. But for now, I and many others will miss this particular chapter of her life. As we look forward to the final issue, it’s a reminder of how stories can evolve and sometimes, unexpectedly end.
