Marvel is bringing Vision back to our screens in 2026, and Paul Bettany will reprise his role. Terry Matalas, known for ‘Star Trek: Picard’, will be the showrunner for this new, untitled series. The series follows Vision’s journey after the events of ‘WandaVision’.

In ‘WandaVision’, we saw Vision die at the hands of Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. However, he returned twice in 2021’s ‘WandaVision’. First, as a creation by Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Then, he appeared as a ghost white android with no memory of his past life. The two versions of Vision battled, and memories were restored, but Wanda allowed her Vision to fade away. This new show will explore Vision’s life after these events.

Terry Matalas impressed Marvel with his work on Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’, which brought back the cast of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’. His work received widespread acclaim and even earned him a WGA award nomination. Marvel’s Kevin Feige, a known Trekkie, appeared with Matalas on the ‘Star Trek’ podcast ‘Inglorious Treksperts’, which further solidified their collaboration.

Previously, there was an attempt to develop a Vision series with Jac Schaeffer, the creator of ‘WandaVision’. Schaeffer shifted her focus to a ‘WandaVision’ spinoff, ‘Agatha All Along’, set to premiere in September. With Matalas on board, Marvel is shifting its TV production strategy. The company is moving away from the features model and adopting a traditional TV approach with a longer development period.

Before ‘Picard’, Matalas created and ran the Syfy series ’12 Monkeys’. He also worked on shows like ‘MacGyver’, ‘Nightflyers’, ‘Nikita’, ‘Terra Nova’, and ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’. He’s even restored multiple ‘Back to the Future’ DeLoreans, which have appeared on ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’ and in Super Bowl commercials.

Marvel’s new approach to TV includes rebranding its live-action output to Marvel Television and reducing the number of shows to about two per year. This Vision series is a fresh start, and we can’t wait to see what it brings.
