Marvel Studios’ Unexpected Approach to ‘World War Hulk’ Storyline

Reports are swirling about Marvel Studios setting up a ‘World War Hulk’ storyline in an unexpected way. Rumors about a ‘World War Hulk’ movie have been around for years, but there has been no clear resolution. Recently, Mark Ruffalo confirmed that Marvel never planned to give him a solo movie due to complicated rights issues with Universal.

In a Discord AMA, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus shared that the studio is gradually building up the ‘World War Hulk’ storyline. This isn’t happening in the way we might have expected. Since Hulk can’t have a standalone project, the story is unfolding across various movies and shows. This seems logical because the narrative will involve multiple characters and projects.

Perez mentioned that the ‘World War’ storyline has been quietly developing in the background of several Marvel projects. These include ‘Black Widow,’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ ‘WandaVision,’ ‘Ms. Marvel,’ ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law,’ ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ ‘Secret Invasion,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ and ‘Eternals.’ The storyline revolves around the world’s growing concern over the increasing number of superheroes after ‘Endgame.’ With no active Avengers, countries are scrambling to create their own superhuman soldiers to defend against various threats.

We can see examples of this tension. France tried to secretly acquire vibranium from Wakanda, while the United States has been taking covert actions. The Department of Damage Control is also managing superhuman incidents. This narrative is expected to peak in ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Nations are pursuing their superhuman goals, leading to governments worldwide creating Hulks.

The story will see Bruce Banner facing his worst fears as governments produce their own Hulks. This conflict might bring back the Savage Hulk and lead to a showdown between Banner and President Ross as the Red Hulk.

Ruffalo had initially confirmed his appearance in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ but later retracted his statement, calling it a mistake. If we look at the lineup for ‘Brave New World,’ all the announced villains are linked to the Hulk, except for Esposito’s character, whose identity remains unknown. This setup seems plausible given the arguments Perez presented.
