Marvel TV Executive Aims to Introduce a New Ghost Rider on TV—Not Johnny Blaze!
Marvel Studios holds the rights to Ghost Rider and briefly allowed Marvel Television to feature the Robbie Reyes version in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Lately, whispers have circulated that Johnny Blaze might soon zoom into the MCU. Early rumors suggested a debut in a “Marvel Studios Special Presentation,” but with Disney’s shift to boost cinema profits, those ideas may have stalled. This shift might also explain why Marvel Studios is eyeing an A-list actor for this blazing role.
In a recent discussion with Collider about “Agatha All Along,” Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel Streaming, Television, and Animation, shared his eagerness to bring another Ghost Rider to the screen—not Johnny Blaze, but Danny Ketch. “I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider,” Winderbaum stated, hinting at the potential for a new series but stopping short of an official announcement.
Who is Danny Ketch? He’s the second to take up the Ghost Rider mantle, starting in the 1990 comic “Ghost Rider #1.” Danny’s transformation into Ghost Rider is triggered by innocent blood and involves a mystical motorcycle. He possesses the ‘Penance Stare,’ a formidable power that makes evildoers experience the pain they’ve inflicted. While Johnny Blaze is well-loved, Danny’s adventures in the 90s reinvigorated the character with a fresh energy.
Interestingly, Ryan Gosling, known from “Barbie,” has shown a keen interest in taking on a superhero persona, specifically the Spirit of Vengeance. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, responded positively to the idea last year, praising Gosling’s talent and expressing a desire to bring him into the MCU. Gosling himself has been picky with superhero roles, searching for the perfect fit. Could Ghost Rider be the role that captures his interest?
For now, all we can do is wait and see if Ghost Rider’s fiery wheels will spin anew on Disney+. The excitement around the idea shows that both the fans and the creators are ready to reignite this character’s fiery saga on the screen.
