Marvel’s Ingenious Plan for a Unique Deadpool Comeback
The movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is still drawing crowds in theaters worldwide. Featuring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, it lived up to its billing as this year’s most awaited film. It delivered exactly what we all hoped for, complete with an impressive array of Easter Eggs and cameos that continue to captivate the audience.
One cameo that stood out involves a bizarre variant of Deadpool known as Headpool. Voiced by Nathan Fillion, Headpool, essentially a decomposing flying head, might seem more comic relief than hero. Despite his limited utility in the climactic battle, this oddity emerged as one of the movieโs most memorable Deadpool variants.
For those unfamiliar, Headpool originates from the ‘Marvel Zombies’ universe, first appearing in ‘Marvel Zombies #3’ in February 2006. Although not frequent in comic books, the character’s brief appearance in the recent movie has sparked significant interest.
Marvel appears to have a perfect setup to reintroduce Headpool in the upcoming MCU lineup. If you recall the ‘What If…?’ series, it featured a zombie-themed episode inspired by the same ‘Marvel Zombies’ universe. While that series is complete, Marvel is not done with the zombie theme. They are prepping a four-part miniseries titled ‘Marvel Zombies’ set to possibly premiere in 2025.
This new series is expected to feature zombified versions of several MCU stalwarts like Clint Barton, Steve Rogers, Emil Blonsky, Ava Starr, Wanda Maximoff, Carol Danvers, Ikaris, and Okoye. Although Headpool wasn’t listed among these characters, the ongoing popularity of the movie and the time still available for production tweaks mean there’s a good chance for his return.
We just have to wait and see if Marvel decides to bring back the flying head. Given his fan-favorite status from the recent film, incorporating Headpool could add a quirky yet engaging element to the ‘Marvel Zombies’ storyline, enhancing its appeal and perhaps even providing a touch of humor amid the horror.
